A jury has convicted James Stanley Weems Jr., a 59-year-old retired Baltimore Police officer, on all six counts of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl at his ex-wife’s day care center. The verdict came after more than five hours of deliberation on Friday. Weems, who began trial on Monday, faced charges stemming from incidents occurring at Lil Kidz Kastle Daycare Center in Owings Mills, Maryland.
Prosecutors presented evidence that Weems, acting as the day care’s van driver, groomed the girl by providing her with snacks and special privileges. They alleged he used this relationship to expose her to pornography and sexually assault her both in the van and at the center. Evidence included troubling search history from Weems’ phone, with over 170 searches for pornographic material between January and July 2022 at various elementary schools.
