(Source: Wired) In the fast-paced world of OnlyFans, where creators engage with their fans through personalized messages, a new wave of artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping how content creators manage their interactions. As creators juggle thousands of direct messages (DMs), many are turning to AI-powered chatbots to handle the overwhelming volume of online conversations, replacing the human “chatters” who once impersonated them.
Earlier this year, WIRED reported on the growing industry of “chatters”—gig workers, often from countries like the Philippines and India, who were paid to impersonate popular OnlyFans stars in online chats. These chatters would respond to fans’ affectionate messages, helping creators maintain the illusion of a personal connection, a key aspect of the platform’s appeal. However, as demand increased, human chatters began to be replaced by AI systems designed to simulate this engagement.
Startups like ChatPersona are capitalizing on this trend. Founded by Kunal Anand, ChatPersona offers AI-driven chat services specifically for OnlyFans creators. The company claims that since its launch last year, it has attracted over 6,000 customers, both individuals and agencies. These AI tools are designed to assist creators in managing their messages by generating responses that mimic the creator’s tone and style, with a human “in the loop” to approve the responses before they’re sent.
While OnlyFans has previously banned the use of AI chatbots, its current terms of service don’t explicitly mention AI chatters, allowing services like ChatPersona to operate within legal boundaries. Other competitors in the market, including FlirtFlow, ChatterCharms, and Supercreator, offer similar tools, with features ranging from automated message generation to algorithms that sort and prioritize fan interactions based on spending habits.
One enthusiast for the new tech is Eden, a former OnlyFans creator who now runs an agency, Heiss Talent. Eden represents several creators who use Supercreator’s suite of AI tools. She notes that the technology has led to a significant increase in sales, particularly through automated messages that target lapsed fans. For instance, AI can identify inactive users and send them a message when they return to the platform, which can lead to high-value interactions, including tips.
Although Eden uses AI to initiate conversations, she emphasizes that creators still play a central role in maintaining authenticity. “We come up with the core of the message, and the AI helps us fill it out,” she says, ensuring that the personal touch remains intact.
As AI continues to shape the OnlyFans ecosystem, it’s clear that the technology is both enhancing the efficiency of creators and challenging the traditional role of human chatters in the process. Whether this shift will continue to grow or face further scrutiny remains to be seen, but for now, AI is helping creators keep up with the demand for personalized attention from their fans.
