Washington, D.C., USA- January 13, 2020: FDA Sign at its headquarters in Washington DC. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or USFDA) is a federal agency of the USA.
Federal health authorities are currently looking into a widespread outbreak of extensively drug-resistant Salmonella Newport infections associated with Rosabella-brand moringa powder capsules. They are advising consumers to refrain from eating or selling specific lots of this product.
On Friday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in collaboration with state and local partners, reported that seven individuals across seven states have contracted the outbreak strain. The illnesses were reported to have started between November 7, 2025, and January 8, 2026.

Three individuals have required hospitalization, but fortunately, no fatalities have been recorded.
The CDC noted that all three patients who were interviewed indicated that they had consumed Rosabella-brand moringa powder capsules prior to falling ill. These capsules were distributed by Ambrosia Brands LLC and were sold in white plastic bottles featuring a green label, with expiration dates set for 2027.
The outbreak strain exhibits resistance to all first-line and alternative antibiotics typically recommended for treating Salmonella infections, which raises significant concerns among health officials regarding treatment options for severe cases. The FDA has issued guidance to healthcare providers on how to diagnose and manage infections associated with this resistant strain.
Salmonella infections usually manifest within 12 to 72 hours following exposure to contaminated food. Symptoms can persist for four to seven days and may include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. Young children under the age of 5, older adults, and individuals with compromised immune systems are at a heightened risk of experiencing severe illness.
The affected moringa capsules were sold through multiple online retailers, including eBay, TikTok Shop, Amazon, Shein and the company’s website, Tryrosabella.com.

The FDA has recommended that Ambrosia Brands recall all Rosabella-brand moringa powder capsules, and the company has agreed to recall certain lots. Lot codes for potentially contaminated products can be found on the bottom of the bottles. A full list of affected lot numbers and expiration dates has been posted by the agency.
Consumers and retailers are advised to check for 2027 expiration dates and matching lot codes and to avoid eating, selling or distributing the product if it is included in the recall. Officials recommend discarding the capsules and their containers or returning them to the place of purchase.
The FDA also advised consumers and retailers to thoroughly clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers that may have come into contact with the capsules to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.
Anyone who develops symptoms consistent with Salmonella infection after consuming the product should contact a healthcare provider immediately.
The investigation remains ongoing. The FDA said it is conducting a traceback investigation to determine the source of contamination and is collecting samples with state partners. The agency said it will update the public as more information becomes available.
