(Source : WSFA) The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) is investigating the death of a 62-year-old inmate found unresponsive at the Limestone Correctional Facility on Sunday. Steven Wayne Benton, who was serving a life sentence for manslaughter out of Autauga County, was discovered in his cell by staff members.
According to ADOC, emergency life-saving measures were immediately administered, and Benton was rushed to the facility’s Health Care Unit for further treatment. However, medical personnel were unable to revive him, and he was later pronounced dead.
The cause of Benton’s death is currently under investigation by the ADOC’s Law Enforcement Services Division. Authorities have not released additional details pending the outcome of the investigation.
Benton had been incarcerated at Limestone Correctional Facility, where he was serving a life sentence for a manslaughter conviction.
