Washington, D.C. – A 40-year-old Rockville, Maryland man, Jason Hanif Rehman, was sentenced today to 14 years in federal prison for coercing a 15-year-old girl into sending him sexually explicit images via Snapchat and traveling to engage in sexual acts with her.
Rehman pleaded guilty in November 2024 to one count of coercion and enticement in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The charges stemmed from his actions in October and November 2018.
According to court records, over a span of five weeks, Rehman interacted with the underage victim via Snapchat. Throughout these conversations, he instructed her to create and send him child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and shared explicit images of himself. Additionally, Rehman made trips from Maryland and Washington, D.C., to Virginia on at least two occasions to engage in sexual relations with the minor.
The inquiry was initiated after a student from the victim’s school informed law enforcement about her interactions with an adult male. Authorities were able to identify the individual as Rehman. During the investigation, other minors revealed that they too had been approached by Rehman through Snapchat. When apprehended by law enforcement, Rehman confessed to reaching out to the victim via Snapchat, persuading her to send explicit images, and engaging in sexual intercourse with her.
The case was handled by the Metropolitan Police Department-FBI Child Exploitation Task Force, with significant support from the Fairfax County Police Department.
“Today’s sentence holds Mr. Rehman accountable for the horrific exploitation of a child,” stated Interim U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro for the District of Columbia. Matthew R. Galeotti, Head of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, joined Pirro in announcing the sentencing. The case is being prosecuted by Trial Attorney Angelica Carrasco of the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS) and Assistant U.S. Attorney Caroline Burrell for the District of Columbia.
