A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison for his role in an online conspiracy that created and distributed videos depicting extreme violence and sexual abuse against animals, federal authorities announced.
Robert Berndt was sentenced to 38 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, after pleading guilty on May 6 to conspiring to create and distribute so-called “animal crush videos.” The sentencing took place in federal court in the Southern District of Ohio.
According to court documents, Berndt worked with others in online groups dedicated to producing and sharing videos that showed acts of sadistic violence against baby and adult monkeys. Prosecutors said the conspirators used encrypted messaging applications to send money to individuals in Indonesia who carried out the requested acts on camera.
