Enoki Mushrooms Recalled in Texas and Florida After Testing Positive for Listeria
LOS ANGELES, CA – May 14, 2026 – HH Fresh Trading is recalling 120 cases of its 150-gram Enoki mushrooms after state health officials in Florida detected the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause severe and sometimes fatal infections, the company announced Wednesday.
The recall was initiated following notification from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on May 11, informing the company that the Florida Department of Health had tested the product on April 20 and received positive results for Listeria on April 28.
No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the company.

Distribution and Product Details
The recalled enoki mushrooms were distributed to wholesalers in Texas and Florida. The product is sold in a clear plastic 150-gram bag bearing the HH Fresh Trading brand name and the code 4711498860002.
According to the company, the affected batch was originally sold to a distributor in Texas on February 23, 2026, and subsequently redistributed to Florida.
Health Risks of Listeria Infection
Listeria monocytogenes poses serious health threats, particularly to vulnerable populations. The organism can cause severe and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems, HH Fresh Trading stated in its recall notice.
Healthy individuals may experience only short-term symptoms, including high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. However, the company warned that listeria infection carries heightened risks for pregnant women, potentially causing miscarriages and stillbirths.
Consumer Guidance
Consumers who have purchased HH Fresh Trading’s Enoki mushrooms are urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Customers with additional questions may contact HH Fresh Trading directly at 262-365-9116, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
The recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the FDA, which published the notice on May 14, one day after the company’s announcement.
Deadly Botulism Risk Prompts Urgent Recall of Smoked Herring Sold in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Illinois
LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y., May 14, 2026 — Federal health officials are warning consumers to discard or return a vacuum-packed smoked herring product after state inspectors found it had not been properly eviscerated, a condition that can allow the bacterium that causes botulism to multiply and produce a potentially fatal neurotoxin.
Terra Medi LLC has recalled all packages of its Hellas Meze Golden Smoked Whole Herring, the company announced Tuesday. The product, imported and distributed to retail stores and wholesalers in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Illinois and New York, was found to be uneviscerated during routine sampling by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. Laboratory analysis confirmed the violation, triggering the recall.
The fish was sold in clear plastic vacuum packaging, under refrigeration, and bears a production date of April 12, 2025 and a best-before date of April 12, 2026. The lot code on affected packages is L120425F54.
Under New York State agriculture regulations, the sale of uneviscerated fish is strictly prohibited because Clostridium botulinum spores are far more likely to be concentrated in the viscera, or internal organs, than in the flesh. Outbreaks of botulism poisoning have been directly linked to improperly gutted fish in the past.
No illnesses had been reported as of the recall date, the company said, but botulism is a medical emergency. Symptoms can appear anywhere from six hours to two weeks after consuming contaminated food and include dizziness, blurred or double vision, difficulty speaking or swallowing, muscle weakness, trouble breathing, abdominal distention and constipation. Anyone experiencing these symptoms after eating the recalled herring is urged to seek immediate medical attention.
Terra Medi is instructing consumers who purchased the product not to eat it and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Questions can be directed to the company at 718-932-9293.
