Boy bands have been a cultural touchstone for over five decades, uniting generations of fans with their infectious hits and electrifying performances. The documentary also delves into the highs and lows of fame, offering an unvarnished look behind the curtain at the lives of some of music’s biggest stars.
The film features firsthand accounts from the artists who lived it, the managers who orchestrated their rise to fame, and other key music figures. Larger Than Life celebrates the unforgettable impact of boy bands like The Beatles, The Jackson 5, New Edition, NSYNC, New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, and SEVENTEEN, among others.
Notable personalities featured in the documentary include AJ McLean and Chris Kirkpatrick of *NSYNC, Donnie Wahlberg of New Kids on the Block, Donny Osmond, Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees, the band HANSON, Lance Bass, Michael Bivins of New Edition, Nick Lachey, and K-pop stars HOSHI and VERNON from SEVENTEEN. These artists reflect on their journeys, the cultural shifts they helped shape, and their thoughts on the enduring appeal of boy bands.
Directed by Tamra Davis (known for Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child), Larger Than Life is produced by music manager Johnny Wright and Van Toffler for Gunpowder & Sky. Executive producers include Barry Barclay, Floris Bauer, and Joanna Zwickel for Gunpowder & Sky, and Bruce Gillmer, Vanessa WhiteWolf, and Michael Maniaci for MTV Entertainment Studios.
