Paramount+ has announced the premiere of The Honey Trap: A True Story of Love, Lies, and the FBI, a gripping documentary that will debut Friday, December 6, at 10 PM ET/PT on the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan. The documentary, produced by Showtime Studios and Vespucci, explores the complex and high-stakes world of espionage, propaganda, and personal relationships.
Directed by Emmy®-nominated filmmaker Chris Moukarbel, known for his work on Banksy Does New York and Gaga: Five Foot Two, the film follows the controversial and dangerous journey of Denis Cuspert, also known as Deso Dogg, a Berlin-based rapper who transitioned from an artist to an MMA fighter, and eventually to a recruiter for the terrorist organization ISIS.
The documentary delves into the life of Cuspert and the FBI’s covert surveillance efforts, focusing on one of their translators who is assigned to monitor his activities. What begins as a professional assignment soon turns into a deeply personal and complicated relationship, raising questions about loyalty, morality, and the intersection of global conflict with everyday life.
“The story of Daniella and Denis is one that often feels too strange to be true,” said Moukarbel. “In a way, their story sits at the crossroads of military power and entertainment culture, showing how these two worlds can sometimes collide in unexpected ways.”
The Honey Trap uncovers the chilling and intimate dynamics between an FBI agent and an ISIS recruiter, shedding light on the powers that shape modern geopolitics and the personal toll these events take on those caught in the middle.
The film is executive produced by Ricky Lloyd George, Hans Charles, Karam Ghossein, and Emily Dische-Becker, with Chris Moukarbel, Birdie Bischoff, Daniel Turcan, and Johnny Galvin serving as producers for Vespucci. Nina L. Diaz is the executive producer for Showtime Studios.
Subscribers to Paramount+ with SHOWTIME will be able to stream the documentary on demand, while it will also air on Showtime at 10 PM ET/PT.
