(Source : CBS) Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has filed a lawsuit against Camwood Capital Management Group, a company owned by his father, James W. Mayfield, and partly owned by his brother Matt. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court on November 22, alleges that Camwood failed to uphold a settlement agreement in which Baker was owed more than $12 million.
The dispute stems from $12.2 million that was transferred from Mayfield to Camwood between 2018 and 2021 without his authorization, mostly to one of Camwood’s subsidiaries. According to the lawsuit, the funds were used to cover operational costs, but Mayfield did not receive any equity or stake in the company.
Mayfield’s legal team claims that the settlement agreement, formed in January 2024, outlined three key conditions: 1) a repayment of $11.7 million plus interest beginning in September 2024, 2) refinancing of an existing loan to help with repayment, and 3) access to Camwood’s financial records. The lawsuit asserts that none of these conditions were met.
As a result, Mayfield is seeking at least $11.74 million, plus interest, legal fees, and any other relief the court deems appropriate. His wife, Emily Mayfield, and their company, Team BRM, LLC, are also listed as plaintiffs in the case.
Mayfield, who signed a $100 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2024, had previously played his best NFL season in 2023, earning a Pro Bowl appearance with 4,044 passing yards and 28 touchdowns
