Vanguard Enterprises Recalls Monarch Premium Kratom Powder Over Salmonella Risk

Vanguard Enterprises, LLC, operating under the name Bedrock MFG, has announced a nationwide recall of its Monarch Premium Kratom powder after testing indicated possible contamination with Salmonella, a bacterium that can lead to serious and sometimes fatal infections.

This recall impacts various types of kratom powder — Bali Gold, Red Bali, Green Maeng Da, and White Elephant — that were sold online and in retail locations throughout the U.S. from April to September 2023. The products were packaged in resealable mylar pouches, available in sizes from 14 grams to 224 grams.

While no illnesses have been reported to date, the company has urged consumers to cease using the product immediately. The contamination was identified during routine testing by the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, which discovered traces of Salmonella in a retail sample.

In healthy individuals, a Salmonella infection usually results in fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain; however, it can pose a greater risk to young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. In rare instances, the infection may spread to the bloodstream, resulting in severe complications such as endocarditis or arthritis.

The recalled products were not distributed in Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Rhode Island, or Wisconsin.
