A man from Tennessee has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his involvement in an armed carjacking that took place in Memphis, as announced by the Justice Department on Tuesday. His accomplice, who was involved in the same robbery, received a sentence exceeding nine years last month.
According to prosecutors, in the early hours of April 9, 2024, 23-year-old Jadakiss Johnson and Tyrone White carjacked a woman at gunpoint, taking her 2023 Toyota Camry. Johnson drove White to the scene, where White allegedly aimed a gun at the victim while she was seated in the driver’s seat and demanded that she exit the vehicle.
When police later approached Johnson, he attempted to escape in another vehicle and then fled on foot. Officers who searched the getaway vehicle found several firearms and a device for converting guns into machine guns. Johnson, who has a history of felony convictions for aggravated assault, is prohibited from owning firearms and has been classified as a career offender under federal sentencing laws.
On August 25, Johnson pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting both the carjacking and the use of a firearm during the commission of the crime. During his sentencing hearing, prosecutors also provided evidence of his violent behavior while in custody, which included assaulting another inmate.
White had previously pleaded guilty to the same charges and was sentenced on October 30 to over nine years in prison.
