Albertsons Recalls Deli Items Due to Salmonella Risk Linked to Contaminated Cucumbers

Albertsons Companies has issued a voluntary recall of three store-made deli items containing cucumbers possibly contaminated with Salmonella. The recall follows an alert from Fresh Creative Foods, a division of Reser’s Fine Foods, Inc., which supplied the affected ingredients.

The contaminated cucumbers were originally grown by Bedner Growers, Inc. in Boynton Beach, Florida, and are now part of an ongoing Salmonella outbreak under investigation by the FDA.

The recalled deli items were sold under the Ready Meals and Star Market brands and include Greek salad products. They were available for purchase at several well-known supermarket chains, including:

• Balducci’s Food Lovers Market
• Kings Food Markets
• Safeway
• Shaw’s
• Star Market

These stores are located across the northeastern United States, specifically in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

Salmonella can cause serious illness, particularly in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Common symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can lead to more severe complications.

Albertsons is urging customers who purchased the recalled deli items not to consume them. Affected products should be either discarded or returned to the store of purchase for a full refund.
