HH Fresh Trading Corp of California has issued a recall for its 200g Taiwan Enoki mushrooms due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause serious infections, particularly in vulnerable groups such as young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
The recalled Enoki mushrooms were distributed in West Virginia and sold at multiple retail locations on August 20 and August 23, 2024. The affected product is packaged in 200-gram clear plastic containers marked with the barcode #4711498860019. Routine testing by the FDA revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the product on September 9, 2024, prompting the recall.
While no illnesses have been reported so far, Listeria infection can cause symptoms such as high fever, headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea in healthy individuals. For pregnant women, the bacteria can lead to miscarriage or stillbirth, making this recall especially critical for expectant mothers.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled Enoki mushrooms are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. HH Fresh Trading has suspended production while continuing to work with the FDA to investigate the source of contamination.
If you have purchased this product, please take action immediately to ensure your safety.
