The June 20 sale featured over 500 lots of fine Western art and antiques, surpassing $900,000 in total.
Morphy’s Old West & Native American Art Auction, held June 20 at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center, delivered strong results with a Manhattan Arms Navy Series IV Single Action Percussion Revolver attributed to outlaw Jesse James taking top honors at $100,860. The auction ran alongside the 36th Annual Old West Show and featured 515 lots of Western art, antiques, and memorabilia.
The revolver, reportedly used by James during the 1868 robbery of the Southern Bank of Kentucky in Russellville, came with a signed letter from James’s son and daughter-in-law attesting to its history. The final price fell within pre-sale estimates.
Other notable results included a Frederic Remington silver sculpture titled The Rattlesnake, which sold for $86,100. Cast in over 1,000 ounces of .999 silver at the Maiden Foundry in Oregon in 1989, the 17-inch piece was number three from an edition of 100.
A silver parade saddle crafted by Nolte-Olsen in San Francisco circa 1937 brought $46,750. The saddle, considered a pinnacle example of high-end parade saddles from silversmith Robert Schaezlein and tooler Gene Sisco, sold within estimate.
An 18K pink gold Waltham hunting cased pocket watch featuring a California grizzly bear motif reached $27,060. The 1889 Vanguard-grade timepiece came in just below its high estimate.
A Sharps “Old Reliable” cartridge belt, similar to one worn by buffalo hunter Jesse Hendricks, exceeded expectations by selling for $24,600 against a $6,500 high estimate. The belt was discovered in an old hunting camp in Northern Ontario.
“We are grateful for the support we have received over the years,” said Dan Morphy, president of Morphy Auctions. The event will continue in Mesa, Arizona, in May 2027.
