Genesis House marks Marilyn Monroe’s centennial with New York exhibition

Genesis House has opened an exhibition in New York centered on Marilyn Monroe’s 100th birthday, presenting her as more than a Hollywood icon and highlighting her ambition, discipline, and control over her public image. The installation, titled Manifesting Marilyn: The Making of an Icon, is open through August 2.
The exhibition uses archival materials, audio, imagery, and immersive room-by-room displays to explore Monroe’s life and career. Organizers say the experience is meant to show how she built her own image and pursued a long-term career strategy in an industry that often limited women’s control.

The exhibit includes spaces themed around headlines, Monroe’s office, her library, her vanity, a screen-based transformation experience, and a final room focused on reflection and new beginnings. Genesis House says the project was developed in partnership with Authentic Brands Group, which manages the Marilyn Monroe estate.
Opening-night guests included actor Chloë Sevigny, who said the exhibition offers a more layered view of Monroe’s legacy. Genesis House also said the Empire State Building will be lit in Monroe’s honor as part of the centennial commemoration.
The installation is being shown at Genesis House’s flagship space in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, where visitors can also view a replica of Monroe’s personal library and purchase themed food and beverage offerings.
