Madison, Wis. — Babcock Dairy of Madison, Wisconsin, is expanding its voluntary recall of Orange Custard Chocolate Chip ice cream, which may have been incorrectly labeled as Chocolate Peanut Butter. The recall affects products that were produced on September 17 and 30, 2024, and could pose a risk to individuals with egg allergies or severe sensitivities. If consumed, the affected products may trigger serious or life-threatening allergic reactions.
Affected Products:
- Product Names: Orange Custard Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Peanut Butter
- Production Dates: Sept. 17, 2024, and Sept. 30, 2024
- Size: Half Gallon
The recall was first initiated on Nov. 4, 2024, after a customer reported mislabeling, and was expanded on Nov. 18, 2024, after additional mislabeling was discovered. Although no illnesses have been reported, the issue arose when a batch of Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream containers was mistakenly filled with Orange Custard Chocolate Chip ice cream, leading to incorrect allergen labeling.
The affected products were distributed to local retailers in the Madison area, including Babcock Dairy Store, Metcalfe’s Markets, Ken’s Meats & Deli, and Capitol Centre Market.
What to Do:
If you purchased any of the affected products, check the production date on the bottom of the container. If the date is either ’09 1724′ (Sept. 17, 2024) or ’09 3024′ (Sept. 30, 2024), return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Babcock Dairy has already retrieved the remaining affected products from retail outlets and is working to ensure the issue is fully resolved. The company is also taking immediate corrective measures, including retraining employees on proper labeling procedures, adding verification checks during production, and improving the separation of packaging materials to prevent further errors.
Consumers with concerns or questions about the recall can contact Babcock Dairy directly.
