Blue Ridge Beef is recalling 5,700 lbs. of its 2 lb log Natural Mix due to a Salmonella contamination. The affected lot, # N25/12/31, is marked on the clips at the end of the product bags. The product is sold with UPC# 854298001054.
Salmonella contamination poses a risk to both pets and humans. Healthy people who handle contaminated pet products may experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. In rare cases, more serious conditions like arthritis or urinary tract issues may arise.
Pets infected with Salmonella may show symptoms such as lethargy, diarrhea (including bloody diarrhea), vomiting, and fever. Pets may also have a decreased appetite and abdominal pain. Infected pets can transmit the bacteria to other animals or humans. If your pet exhibits these symptoms after consuming the product, contact a veterinarian.
The contamination was discovered after a sample of the product tested positive for Salmonella on January 8, 2025, by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture. The product was sold in retail stores from January 3, 2025, to January 24, 2025, in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Tennessee, and Rhode Island.
Consumers who purchased the affected product are urged to return it to the place of purchase or dispose of it in a manner that prevents access by children, pets, or wildlife. The company advises thorough washing and sanitization of any surfaces or utensils that came in contact with the product.
