Washington, D.C., USA- January 13, 2020: FDA Sign at its headquarters in Washington DC. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or USFDA) is a federal agency of the USA.
D. Coluccio & Sons has issued a voluntary recall of its 300-gram packages of “Colussi Cantuccini Chocolate Drops” cookies after it was discovered that the product contains undeclared almonds. The presence of almonds poses a serious risk to individuals with tree nut allergies, potentially leading to severe or life-threatening reactions if consumed.
The affected cookies, which are packaged in blue bags, were distributed nationwide through retail stores and mail orders. The products in question are marked with UPC 8002590006020 and have lot numbers #3540152 (Best Before Date: 15-01-2025) and #L354150 (Best Before Date: 29-05-2025) on the back of the bag.
The recall was triggered after a foreign recall notice from the product manufacturer in Italy revealed that the cookies were packaged without properly labeling the presence of almonds. An internal investigation by D. Coluccio & Sons revealed the issue stemmed from a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes.
No illnesses have been reported at this time, but consumers with almond allergies are advised to avoid consuming the affected products. Those who have purchased the cookies are urged to dispose of them or return them to the point of purchase for a refund.
