Spain Launches Three Short Films at Cannes to Showcase Creative Talent

CANNES, France, May 18, 2026 — Audiovisual From Spain, an initiative of the government trade agency ICEX Spain Trade and Investment, premiered three short films at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17 as part of its ongoing “Where Talent Ignites” campaign.
The films, directed by Carla Simón, the duo Turbo (Pau López and Gerardo del Hierro), and Nicolás Méndez, aim to connect Spanish audiovisual production with fashion, music, animation, design, dance, and contemporary visual culture. They are now available globally on the campaign’s website.

The three productions feature internationally recognized Spanish talent across multiple disciplines.
Carla Simón’s Flamenco stars dancer Rocío Molina and revisits the traditional art form through a contemporary cinematic lens. The film, produced by Mamma Team, also includes performances by Niño de Elche, Dolores La Agujeta, Carmela Greco, and Ángeles Toledano.
La Llama, directed by Turbo and produced by White Horse and Apartamento, explores Spanish creativity and design using animation. The film features character design by Jaime Hayon, music by Yerai Cortés, and vocals by La Tania.
Nicolás Méndez’s La Tarara, produced by CANADA, moves through fashion and cinematic storytelling. It stars Ingrid García-Jonsson, Bárbara Lennie, and Lucas Catalán, with appearances by Rossy de Palma, Eugenia Silva, Milena Smit, Arón Piper, and Miguel Bernardeau.
“The international visibility of Spanish audiovisual talent is experiencing an exceptional moment,” said Elisa Carbonell, CEO of ICEX Spain Trade and Investment, in a statement. “Through initiatives such as Where Talent Ignites, we want to continue strengthening Spain’s global positioning by connecting audiovisual creation with other creative industries.”

The Cannes premiere comes during a year of strong international momentum for Spanish audiovisual production, marked by major festival selections and awards recognition.
Following Cannes, the films will be presented during the Spanish Film Showcase in Mexico City from May 27 to 31 at Cinépolis cinemas, along with additional festival and industry screenings throughout the year.
