HBO has released the first-look images for its upcoming original drama series IT: Welcome to Derry, a spine-tingling prequel to Stephen King’s IT. Set to debut in 2025, the series expands the terrifying world first brought to life in Andy Muschietti’s hit IT films. Developed by Muschietti, his sister Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, IT: Welcome to Derry will stream on Max alongside its HBO airing.
The series is set in the same eerie universe as King’s IT novel and takes fans back to the town of Derry, Maine, offering a deeper dive into the unsettling lore that surrounds it. This marks the next chapter in the franchise after the success of IT and IT Chapter Two, which were both helmed by Andy Muschietti.
Muschietti will direct four episodes of the nine-episode series, promising to bring his signature horror style to the small screen. The star-studded cast includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso, and Bill Skarsgård, who reprises his iconic role as the terrifying Pennywise.
Produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television, the show is based on the IT novel by Stephen King. The writing team includes Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, with Fuchs also serving as co-showrunner alongside Brad Caleb Kane. Executive producers include the Muschiettis, Fuchs, Fuchs’ Wonder Woman collaborator Brad Caleb Kane, IT producer Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Shelley Meals, and David Coatsworth.
Fans can expect a haunting new chapter in the IT saga, as IT: Welcome to Derry promises to explore the dark history of Derry in ways never seen before. Mark your calendars for 2025, as the terror returns to screens both on HBO and streaming on Max.
