An notable operation led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Boston resulted in the arrest of a Brazilian national accused of murder in Brazil. The suspect, whose name is being withheld due to privacy concerns, entered the United States through New York in March 2024 but violated the terms of his admission by failing to leave the country when required. This violation brought the man to the attention of ICE agents, who had been investigating his whereabouts for some time.

Officials in Minas Gerais, Brazil, had issued an arrest warrant for the suspect in June 2024 after he was accused of committing murder. The collaboration between international law enforcement agencies and ICE resulted in his capture near his residence in Fall River, Massachusetts, on the last day of the year.
Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director for ERO Boston, emphasized the commitment of ICE to ensuring that communities such as Fall River are not harboring international criminals. “This Brazilian national has been accused of murder in Brazil,” Hyde said. “ERO Boston will not allow Fall River or any other Massachusetts community to become a safe haven for international fugitives, and we are committed to tracking down accused criminals who put our residents at risk.”
The suspect will remain in ICE custody as he awaits removal proceedings. This arrest underscores ERO’s broader mission to uphold public safety by identifying and removing individuals who violate immigration laws or are accused of serious crimes. ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations division plays a critical role in the arrest and repatriation of noncitizens, ensuring that those who threaten the safety of U.S. communities are brought to justice.
ERO Boston is part of a national network of enforcement offices focused on interior immigration enforcement, including arresting and managing detained individuals. The agency operates more than 200 locations across the U.S., with personnel dedicated to protecting public safety and the integrity of the country’s immigration laws.
This arrest serves as a reminder that ICE is actively pursuing international fugitives who attempt to hide in plain sight, reinforcing the importance of international cooperation in the fight against crime.
