Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced charges against a Greenup man accused of possessing and disseminating child sexual abuse material as part of an ongoing crackdown on online child exploitation across the state.
Karl Kimble, 54, has been charged in Cumberland County Circuit Court with one Class X felony count of dissemination of child pornography — which carries a possible sentence of up to 30 years in prison — and five Class 2 felony counts of possession of child pornography, each punishable by up to seven years.
Kimble was taken into custody on May 1 after investigators from Raoul’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, assisted by the Greenup Police Department, searched his residence on E. Illinois Street. Authorities say they uncovered evidence of child sexual abuse material during the search. He is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on May 5.
According to officials, Kimble worked as a school bus driver for Illinois Central School Bus Company, operating a route for the Charleston school district. Residents with additional information are encouraged to contact Special Investigator Larry Rayburn at 217-843-0350.
“Holding child predators who exploit children accountable can help survivors and their families heal from the terrible trauma they have experienced,” said Attorney General Raoul. “My office’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force will continue to partner with local law enforcement agencies to locate and bring to justice individuals who exploit minors.”
The charges come amid a sharp increase in CyberTipline reports submitted to Illinois’ ICAC Task Force — up 11% in 2024 compared to the previous year. Since 2019, the task force has received over 54,700 reports and assisted in more than 900 arrests. In 2024 alone, it helped rescue more than 45 child victims from ongoing abuse.
Kimble is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
