Zanesville, OH — José Madrid Salsa, a popular brand known for its New Mexico-style salsas, has announced a voluntary recall of its Chipotle Con Queso Salsa due to the presence of undeclared FD&C Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 food color additives. These colorings were not listed on the product’s ingredient label, posing a potential risk to individuals who are allergic or sensitive to these ingredients.
The product was sold at the following events in NY and NC:
Christmas in the Country event in Hamburg, NY November 7-10, 2024.
Syracuse Holiday Shoppes event in Syracuse, NY November 8-10, 2024.
Greensboro Holiday Market event in Greensboro, NC November 15-17, 2024.
The recalled Chipotle Con Queso Salsa, packaged in 13-ounce glass jars with the UPC code 093662452935, was sold at various events in New York and North Carolina. Affected lot codes include:

The recall affects only jars with these specific lot codes. No illnesses have been reported to date, and the issue was identified during a routine inspection by the Ohio Department of Agriculture, acting on behalf of the FDA.
Consumers who are allergic to FD&C Yellow 5 or Yellow 6 are urged to avoid consuming the product, as it could trigger mild to serious allergic reactions. The problem arose from a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging process, which has since been addressed.
