
LEXINGTON PARK, MD – The Maryland State Police are investigating a homicide in St. Mary’s County following a shooting incident on Friday morning.
Chaquanda Latise Odom, 36, from California, Maryland, was found dead at the scene in the 21000 block of Liberty Street in Lexington Park. Emergency medical services pronounced her deceased after arriving at the location.
At approximately 11:10 a.m. on January 3, 2025, troopers from the Leonardtown Barrack responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Odom with multiple gunshot wounds.
In the course of the investigation, police identified and arrested Odom’s ex-husband, 38-year-old Jayson David Pressley, also of Lexington Park. Pressley voluntarily turned himself in at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center and has been charged with first- and second-degree murder. He is currently being held without bond.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the ongoing investigation, with support from several other units, including the Criminal Enforcement Division South, the Crash Team, and the Forensic Sciences Division. The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office are also assisting with the case.
The investigation remains active.
