Washington, D.C., USA- January 13, 2020: FDA Sign at its headquarters in Washington DC. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or USFDA) is a federal agency of the USA.
Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Company LLC, based in Kea’au, Hawaii, has issued a voluntary recall of one batch of its popular Mauna Loa Milk Chocolate Covered Macadamias snack (1oz pouches) due to the presence of undeclared almonds. The recall affects a single batch distributed to two retail locations in Southern California, posing a potential risk to consumers with almond allergies.
The affected product, marked with UPC 0 72992 04260 3, lot number K4351, and a best-by date of July 2026, was sold at World Market and Abraham & Sons, Inc. Almonds, a known allergen, were not declared on the product’s packaging, which could lead to serious or life-threatening allergic reactions for those with sensitivities.

To date, no illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported in connection with the recalled product. The issue was identified through Mauna Loa’s internal quality control processes, which revealed that the affected batch, manufactured by a third-party co-manufacturer, contained undeclared almonds.
Upon discovery, Mauna Loa took immediate action to contain the affected product, notify the third-party manufacturer, alert consumers and distributors, and report the issue to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Consumers who have purchased the recalled Mauna Loa Milk Chocolate Covered Macadamias (1oz pouches) and have an almond allergy are urged not to consume the product. Instead, they should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Mauna Loa has expressed its sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused by the recall. “We remain committed to ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality in our products,” the company stated in its announcement.
For additional information or questions, consumers can contact Mauna Loa’s Customer Service at 1-888-255-5998, Monday through Friday.
This recall serves as a reminder for consumers to always check product labels, especially if they have food allergies, and to stay informed about recalls that may affect their health and safety.
