
Snapchat reported in a press release the are expanding its support for creators by introducing a new, unified Monetization Program that allows creators to earn revenue from both their Stories and longer Spotlight videos. The update, set to roll out on February 1, 2025, comes as the platform sees significant growth in its Spotlight format, with viewership up by 25% year-over-year.
Spotlight, Snapchat’s short-form video platform, has quickly become a key space for creators to share their content. Now, eligible creators will have the opportunity to monetize Spotlight videos longer than one minute, offering even more ways to earn through the platform.
Eligibility Criteria for the New Monetization Program
All future creators are to qualify for the new monetization features, creators will need to meet the following criteria:
- At least 50,000 followers
- Post 25 times per month to either Saved Stories or Spotlight
- Post to Spotlight or Public Stories on at least 10 of the last 28 days
- Achieve one of the following metrics in the past 28 days:
- 10 million Snap views
- 1 million Spotlight views
- 12,000 hours of view time
These requirements are designed to ensure that the creators who join the program are actively engaging with their audiences and producing high-quality content that resonates with their followers.
Over the past year, Snapchat reported the number of creators posting publicly has more than tripled. This surge in creator activity has led to increased engagement from the community, with Snapchat’s users enjoying a wider variety of content from their favorite influencers, entertainers, and everyday creators.
With this, Snapchat believes that by expanding monetization to include longer Spotlight videos, Snapchat is giving creators new avenues to earn income and continue producing authentic, compelling content for their audiences. As part of the new program, eligible creators may also gain access to additional tools and features available through Snap’s Creator Hub.
