Washington, D.C., USA- January 13, 2020: FDA Sign at its headquarters in Washington DC. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or USFDA) is a federal agency of the USA.
Sugar Foods has issued a recall for its 3.5-ounce pouches of Fresh Gourmet Tortilla Strips Santa Fe Style due to the potential presence of undeclared wheat, which poses a risk to individuals with wheat allergies. The recalled product, which bears the UPC code 7 87359 17504 6 and a Best By Date of June 20, 2025, was found to contain Crispy Onion Strips instead of the intended Tortilla Strips. The Crispy Onion Strips contain wheat, a known allergen not listed on the product’s label.
The recall was initiated after a consumer reported discovering the incorrect product in the pouch. While no illnesses have been reported to date, individuals with wheat allergies or severe wheat sensitivities are at risk of serious or even life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the product.
The affected product, ‘Fresh Gourmet Tortilla Strips Santa Fe Style‘ (3.5 oz pouch), was distributed between September 30, 2024, and November 11, 2024, and was shipped to distribution centers in several states, including Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, Texas, Virginia, and others. The product is packaged in stand-up resealable pouches, and consumers are advised to check the Best By Date printed on the back of the pouch, located above the UPC code, to identify potentially affected items.

Sugar Foods urges customers who have purchased the affected product to discard it immediately or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. No reports of injuries or adverse reactions have been received, but the company is taking precautions to ensure consumer safety.
Consumers with questions or concerns about the recall can contact Sugar Foods at Customerfeedback@sugarfoods.com, 332-240-6676 Monday – Friday 9am-5pm EST.
For more details on the recall, including a photo of the affected packaging, consumers can visit the company’s website or the official FDA recall page.
