LAS VEGAS, NV (Source : Complex) — A Las Vegas judge has ordered singer Trey Songz to pay $11 million in damages following a 2021 battery incident involving Maryland Capitol Police officer Tyrelle Dunn. The ruling comes after Songz failed to respond to a lawsuit filed by Dunn, who claimed he was assaulted by the singer and his security team while attempting to rescue his wife.
The incident occurred in November 2021, during Songz’s birthday celebrations at The Cosmopolitan hotel in Las Vegas. Dunn alleged that his wife was among a group of women invited to the hotel room by Songz. According to Dunn’s lawsuit, his wife screamed for help, claiming she was being held against her will, prompting Dunn to intervene. When he attempted to rescue her, Dunn was reportedly attacked by Songz and his security personnel.
Dunn suffered serious injuries, including fractured eye sockets and scarring, which caused him to miss work. The damages awarded by the court will cover his medical expenses, pain and suffering, and punitive damages.
Although Songz was found not guilty in a related criminal case in April 2022, Dunn filed a civil suit against the singer. The default judgment against Songz was issued after he failed to respond to the lawsuit, leading to the court’s decision to award Dunn $11 million.
Songz, 39, has not publicly commented on the ruling.
