As reported by AOL, the beloved Swedish soccer star announced his retirement on Sunday during an emotional speech after the game, addressing the home crowd at San Siro Stadium following AC Milan’s Serie A season finale. This announcement came after Milan’s 3-1 victory over Verona. Ibrahimović, who is 41 years old, made this declaration while dressed in casual attire, as he has not played since suffering a calf injury in April.
He began his professional journey in 1999 with Malmö FF in Sweden and has played for nine different teams, including Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester United, before spending two seasons in MLS with the Los Angeles Galaxy. After his time with the Galaxy, he returned to AC Milan for a second spell, having previously played there from 2010 to 2012.
Ibrahimović secured three Serie A titles with Inter Milan between 2008 and 2010. He added another title with AC Milan in 2012 and once more in 2022. He represented Sweden’s national team and concludes his career as the all-time leading scorer for the team, netting 62 goals. He played a key role in helping Sweden reach the World Cup Round of 16 in both 2002 and 2006. In 2013, he achieved a remarkable fourth place in the Ballon d’Or voting.
