Forum Rules
To maintain a welcoming, respectful space for everyone, please follow these simple guidelines:

  1. Be respectful. Treat others the way you’d like to be treated. We’re all here to learn and share.
  2. Use English only. Posts should be in English; if you wish to write in another language, please do so via private messages.
  3. No spam. Irrelevant or promotional posts will be removed.
  4. Avoid all caps. Writing in all capitals is considered shouting and isn’t necessary.
  5. Keep images under 800×600. This helps users with slower connections and keeps the forum neat.
  6. No red text. Only moderators and administrators may use it.
  7. No personal attacks. Insults, flaming, or harassment toward other members or staff will not be tolerated.
  8. Use appropriate language. Some members may be younger. Mild swearing is allowed, but keep it minimal and respectful. A language filter is in place.
  9. No hacking or illegal activity. Discussions or links related to torrents, illegal downloads, or similar content are strictly prohibited and may be reported to local authorities.
  10. No inappropriate content. If you wouldn’t view it at work or in front of children, don’t post it.

What Happens if You Break a Rule
Consequences depend on the severity of the rule violation:

  • First offense (minor): You may receive a private message correction; no further action taken.
  • Serious offense: You’ll receive a formal warning recorded to your account.
  • Second offense: Another warning will be issued.
  • Third offense: A temporary ban may occur, with length determined by the severity of the violation.
  • Further offenses: A permanent ban will be applied, meaning you will no longer be able to access the forum.

We appreciate your cooperation in keeping Wick & Company Forums a friendly, safe, and productive space for all members. Enjoy sharing, learning, and connecting!

What Is Allowed in r/Movies?

Movie news and discussion regarding major motion pictures.

r/Movies operates a bit differently from most large subreddits. Our moderators were selected from long-time community members who consistently participated in discussions and contributed meaningfully. We moderate because movies are our passion, and our goal is to maintain a clean, fun, and civil space to talk about them.

These rules weren’t created in a vacuum. They are the result of years of daily interaction with the community, user feedback, and evolving edge cases. We didn’t set out to write an enormous rulebook for its own sake—this list exists because experience has shown it’s necessary.

I. Ironclad Rules

A. Submission Titles

  1. Titles must be clear and descriptive. Name the movie, actor, or subject explicitly. Do not be vague.

  2. Clickbait is prohibited. If a title requires clicking to understand the content, it will be removed. Ask yourself: Could someone find this post later by searching for it?

  3. Quotes are not allowed in submission titles. Experience shows users fixate on quotes instead of discussion.

  4. ALL CAPS titles will be removed.

  5. Calls to action (“Click here,” “Check this out”) are prohibited.

  6. ASCII art titles are not allowed.

  7. You are encouraged to rewrite article headlines to be clearer and less clickbait-driven.

  8. Do not include reviews or Rotten Tomatoes scores in titles for movies still in theaters or newly released.

  9. Link-post titles may not be questions.

B. Definitive Content

  1. r/Movies focuses on major motion pictures. The dividing line between r/Movies and r/Filmmakers is whether a project has major distribution or substantial industry involvement.

  2. Festival-only films, self-made projects, and short films are not allowed.

  3. Links to full movies are prohibited, legal or not.

  4. Excessive franchise or comic-book content will be removed unless it is major, official news. Humor, speculation, countdowns, and minor discussion belong in dedicated franchise subs.

C. Misinformation

  1. All news must be confirmed and factual. Articles citing unnamed “sources” are usually removed. Acceptable confirmation comes from studios, directors, producers, or official announcements.

  2. “In talks,” “rumored,” or “close to a deal” stories are not allowed.

  3. The Onion is exempt.

D. Image Posts

  1. Movie posters are allowed for upcoming releases and for films released prior to 1960.

  2. Posters must be hosted on Wick & Company News Media.

  3. Posters for popular or franchise films are limited to two per movie total. Logo reveals do not count.

  4. Character-only posters are not allowed.

  5. Posters in foreign languages are not allowed.

  6. Leaked set photos are prohibited.

  7. Infographics are judged case by case; SEO spam will be removed.

E. Incivility

  1. Racism, sexism, homophobia, or harassment result in immediate bans.

  2. Offensive quotes must be clearly attributed and contextualized. Quoting does not excuse bigotry.

  3. Personal insults of any kind are ban-worthy.

  4. Trolling, baiting, and bad-faith participation are not tolerated.

  5. Do not derail discussions to target other users.

  6. Complaints about inclusion of minorities or women violate subreddit rules.

F. Movie Trailers

  1. Only official trailers from studio channels are allowed. No fan edits or TV spots.

  2. Rehosting for monetization or karma farming is prohibited.

  3. Trailers for films already released are not allowed unless the film predates 1970.

G. Movie Scenes / Clips

  1. One clip per user per day.

  2. Minimum length: 60 seconds. HD required when available.

  3. Titles must include movie title, release year, scene context, and director.

  4. Titles must remain objective.

  5. Clips should ideally be uploaded directly to Reddit.

H. Movie Recommendations

  1. Movie trailers as recommendation links are allowed starting in 2025.

  2. One link per movie every six months.

  3. Do not call movies “hidden gems” or “underrated.”

I. Piracy

  1. Piracy news and links are not allowed.

  2. Encouraging piracy results in an immediate ban.

J. Gossip & Tabloids

  1. Celebrity personal lives are not movie news unless they directly affect a production.

  2. Firings, arrests, halts in production, or recasting are movie news.

  3. Moral judgments unrelated to film production are not allowed.

  4. For gossip, use r/entertainment.

K. Anniversary Posts

  1. Anniversary posts must offer substance and clarity.

  2. Titles should explain what the link contains.

  3. Do not make users guess.

L. Spam & Self-Promotion

  1. Do not name your account after your brand.

  2. No more than 20% self-promotion.

  3. Click bait topics require large established audiences.

  4. Paid ads are encouraged instead of spam.

M. Novelty Accounts & Bots

Novelty accounts and bots are prohibited.

N. Text Posts

  1. Minimum of 300 characters in the body.

  2. AI-generated content presented as original will result in a ban.

O. Spoilers

  1. Be considerate. Marketing material is fair game; surprises are not.

  2. Mods may remove spoilers at discretion.

  3. Intentional spoilers result in immediate bans.

II. Gray Areas

Some topics require flexible moderation depending on volume and context. High-frequency topics may be temporarily restricted.

A. Fan Art

  • No commissions or sales.

  • Single-image fan art is not allowed.

  • Exceptional projects may be submitted as text posts with links.

B. Gray-Area Image Posts

  • BTS photos for post-1960 films are generally not allowed.

  • Images shared by filmmakers may be allowed if rehosted and genuinely newsworthy.

  • Pre-1960 films are broadly exempt.

C. Box Office

  • One weekly box office summary allowed.

  • Records must be significant and verifiable.

D. Click Bait Topics

  • Major news only.

  • Discussion belongs in franchise subs.

III. Prohibited Websites

  • Streaming sites

  • Letterboxed

  • IMDb

  • Rotten Tomatoes

  • Social media links (Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter)

Rehost content when necessary and credit the source.

IV. New Movie Rollout Procedure

  1. Announcement – Must be studio-confirmed.

  2. Trailers/Posters – Official sources only.

  3. Reviews – Mega threads encouraged post-embargo.

  4. Release – Official Discussion threads will be posted and stickied.

All early discussion belongs in Official Discussion threads. Posts outside those threads may be removed until discussion restrictions are lifted (typically 1–2 months).
