Paramount+ with Showtime has revealed the official trailer and premiere date for its highly anticipated political espionage thriller The Agency. The series, which stars Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Richard Gere, will premiere on Friday, November 29, with two episodes available on streaming and on demand for subscribers to the Paramount+ with Showtime® plan. The title will also be available internationally on Paramount+ in the UK, Canada, Australia, Italy, Germany, Latin America, and Brazil.
A reimagining of the acclaimed French drama Le Bureau des Legendes, The Agency follows Martian (played by Michael Fassbender), a seasoned CIA agent who is ordered to abandon his covert life and return to the agency’s London station. When a past love resurfaces, his professional duties collide with his personal desires, setting off a dangerous game of international intrigue. The series explores the tension between career and romance as Martian is thrust into a deadly web of espionage, forcing him to confront both his mission and his heart.
Alongside Fassbender, the star-studded cast includes Academy Award® nominee Richard Gere, Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner-Smith, Katherine Waterston, and John Magaro, with Hugh Bonneville appearing as a guest star. Recurring roles are played by a talented ensemble including Adam Nagaitis, Ambreen Razia, Bilal Hasna, David Harewood, and Sabrina Wu.
The Agency is a co-production between Showtime Studios and 101 Studios and is executive produced by Keith Cox and Nina L. Diaz of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, along with David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, and Bob Yari of 101 Studios. The series is also produced by Smokehouse Pictures, with George Clooney and Grant Heslov serving as executive producers. The writing team includes Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, who also executive produce, alongside director Joe Wright, who helms the first two episodes.
The series is a fresh take on Le Bureau des Legendes, a French series that gained critical acclaim for its portrayal of deep-cover agents working for France’s external security service. The Agency promises to bring a new perspective on the world of espionage, focusing on the high-stakes world of CIA operatives navigating both personal and professional peril.
The Agency will also premiere on Paramount+ in Japan in 2025.
